A year ago, we embarked on a journey, maybe even an experiment: The Keto Diet. I capitalize it because it deserves to be capitalized! At the time of this writing, Joe and I have lost a combined total of 180 pounds.
It was Joe’s idea. I subscribed to the belief that you “shouldn’t” do fad diets. You shouldn’t cut out a whole food group. You could never sustain it. Nevermind when someone is allergic to a food(or food group), they cut it out of their diet to feel better, and are able to sustain it, so, there’s that. But I didn’t know that yet(I heard that example from Gary Taubes).
On April 1, 2018, we attended church and went out to eat. I had some bbq on a bun and little to no carbs the rest of the day. I felt GREAT. I had already starting losing a little bit using the techniques I had learned from a weight loss program called Naturally Slim.
I lost about 15 pounds in 6 weeks. Not too shabby. Unfortunately, I got what I can assume was the keto flu and got very discouraged. That was really the beginning of the end for me and Keto. Or so I thought!
